We have a meeting nearly every week at Simply Home Community and we ask that people come to 2 meetings each month (though most of us make it to most of the meetings most of the time). We have two different types of meetings - Logistics Meetings and Heart Meetings - and we switch between them.
Logistics Meetings are all about figuring out the details of how we're going to live well together. Everyone can add to the agenda and we have roles for the meetings that we rotate around (for instance, if Tony facilitates this meeting he might take notes or keep time at the next meeting.) Our logistics meetings are where we address issues like where we want to go for our annual retreat, how we're going to tackle a home improvement project, or what we want to update in our Community Living Agreements. We've honed our decision making process over time and we're continually working to improve it further.
Heart Meetings help us to get to know each other better and like each other more. Past heart meetings have included: soaking in the hot tub at McMenamin's Kennedy School, baking cookies, welcoming new community members, exploring our collective vision, etc. Heart meetings sometimes cover serious stuff, too, like challenges we're facing as a community or what we'd do if The Big One hits the Pacific Northwest, but they're less about the nitty gritty logistical stuff and more about making sure that our community is stronger because we're bonding and banding together.
The Community Living Agreements are a set of governing documents that everyone agrees to follow when they join the community. We use this guiding document for our interactions and expectations of each other. They were drafted by the initial members and agreed to by newcomers. This is a dynamic document that changes as our community evolves and learns more about itself and each other.
