We enjoy some Good Eatin' around here, thanks to three things: our garden, our Community Dinners, and our Bulk Buy.
Bulk Buy
Each month we order pantry goods in bulk through a local buying club. Bulk buy items typically include things like: rice, beans, flour, sugar, olive oil, etc. We can use bulk foods for either our own cooking or for our community dinners.
Community Dinners
Since there are seven of us at Simply Home Community we take turns cooking for each other. Each of us has a night of the week that we're responsible for cooking for the community and the other six nights of the week we just wait for the dinner bell to ring and then swarm into the kitchen to dish up. We catch up over the meal and usually we'll have a question or theme to discuss. Whoever cooked gets a pass on dishes and the rest of us tidy up after the meal.
Our Garden
We grow as much of our own produce as we can in our garden. This year we're planning to grow greens, peas, beans, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, radishes, beets, leeks, and many more goodies! We're also grateful that the established fruit trees on our property provide us with lots of plums and Asian pears.
